1.1 No apologies or declarations of interest were received.
2.1 The Committee heard evidence from the Chair of Wales Air Quality Forum, Natural Resources Wales, Ricardo Energy and Environment and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee about the issues affecting air quality in Wales.
2.2 Mr Peter Oates circulated a hard copy of the All Wales Pollution Expert Panel’s response to the Welsh Government’s consultation on air quality management.
2.3 Mr Oates provided the Committee with a copy of the Health Impact Assessment for the Critical Care hospital development in Torfaen.
3.1 The Committee heard evidence from the British Lung Foundation and Public Health Wales about the effects of air quality on public health in Wales.
3.2 Mr Huw Brunt, from Public Health Wales, agreed to provide the Committee with copies of the reports he referred to in evidence.
5.1 In accordance with Standing Order 17.42, the Committee agreed to exclude the public from the meeting for Item 6.
6.1 The Committee discussed the evidence it had received.
6.2 The Committee agreed to:
- write to relevant Welsh Ministers, Caerphilly County Council, Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board and the Chancellor of the Exchequer to request further information in relation to the issue of air quality in Wales;
- prepare a report following consideration of the responses to the above correspondence; and
- request a plenary debate on air quality in Wales.
